Ever since Prince George was born on 22 July 2013, the world was obsessed with how adorable the young royal. Almost instantly, the nation fell in love with his cheeky smile, his fluffy blonde hair and cute outfits. The Prince, who is third in line to the throne, has frequently stolen the show at royal engagements, too.

From his first few steps to his first day at St Thomas's Battersea, we've watched Prince George grow up – and one constant throughout that journey is that his father, Prince William, has always been right by his side (as has his mother, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge). The bond between Prince William and his son is clearly special, made even more so by the fact that the pair will both one day become King - and of course that they both love football.

In the spirit of celebrating their unique bond, we've rounded up 18 of our favourite photos of William and George, from their early moments to the present day. From Prince George's christening to the Euro championships final, here are some of the sweetest father-son moments between Prince William and Prince George...

Prince George's christening at St James's Palace

Perhaps one of the cutest father-son moments between the two royals was Prince George's christening at Chapel Royal at St James's Palace in October 2013. Prince George looked every inch the cutie in his father's arms - and even more so as he was wearing a lace and satin christening gown, made by the Queen's dressmaker. According to reports, the dress was stained with Yorkshire Tea.

After Princess Charlotte's birth

After the birth of his baby sister, Princess Charlotte, who was born on 2 May 2015 at the Lido Wing in Chelsea, Prince William and Prince George greeted photographers together outside of the hospital. With some encouragement from his father, Prince George gave the photographers a tentative wave. Sweet!

That time Prince George met Barack Obama

Prince William introducing Prince George to Barack Obama, who was President of the United States at the time, is perhaps one of the best royal moments in history. The Duke of Cambridge gently convinced a teeny Prince George to shake Obama's hand, who continued to look apprehensively at his dad for comfort.

The 2-year-old prince, who was allowed to stay up past his bedtime to greet the President, wore tiny slippers, striped pyjamas and smart dressing gown. Obama, who was visiting Kensington Palace with his wife Michelle, brought the Prince a rocking horse which he was also snapped having fun on.

Prince William was busy competing in a charity polo match in Tetbury on this June day in 2015, but of course he still had time for a quick hug with toddler George!

When in Canada in the autumn of 2016, Prince William looked on and laughed as an impish Prince George took aim at his mother and younger sister, Charlotte, with a balloon sword. The family were attending a children's party for military families.

The young Prince was also seen giving his daddy a big cuddle at the event, too:

During a summer trip to Poland in 2017, the Duke of Cambridge crouched down to little George's level at Warsaw airport and appeared to be explaining their next moves to him. The poor mite looked a little unsure of himself, but his dad stepped in to offer reassurance.

While on their visit to Germany in July 2017, Prince William took great care to walk slowly with Prince George as they stepped out of the aeroplane. The attentive father was super careful to ensure his son didn't take a tumble.

When Prince George stood inside a helicopter

When Prince George accompanied his parents' tour of Germany in 2017, he was also allowed to see inside a helicopter in Hamburg. As you can tell from the photograph, the little Prince couldn't contain his excitement. Perhaps he will one day become a RAF pilot like his father?

On Prince George's first day of school

Starting a new school is nerve-wracking enough for anyone, never mind when the entire world is watching your every move. Luckily, Prince George had his father to hold his hand as he greeted his new teacher, Helen Haslem, at St Thomas's Battersea in September 2017. Kate was unfortunately suffering with hyperemesis gravidarum at the time, owing to her third pregnancy with Prince Louis, which meant she couldn't see her son off at the school gates.

After Prince William became a doting father of three, he took his two eldest, George and Charlotte, to meet their new baby brother, Louis, and ensured that both children were safe and happy while walking past the cluster of photographers and onlookers who'd set up camp outside of the hospital. We love this sweet moment of the Duke checking in on his son.

The two Cambridge boys stuck side-by-side, and an excited young George was seen clearly eager to point something out to his father as they exited St George's Chapel together.

During a car ride to Buckingham Palace on 18 December 2019, Prince George was spotted riding up front with his papa. We wonder who got to choose what radio station to listen to?

During the Trooping of the Colour event in 2019, at which the royals were treated to a flyover in honour of the Queen's birthday, Prince William placed his hands on his son's shoulders, as both future Kings took in the air show overhead. This innately protective gesture is so endearing.

It's only natural that a young child might feel overwhelmed by a gathered crowd, but thankfully for Prince George, when the royals took their traditional walk to attend a Christmas Day church service in 2019 – and were greeted by plenty of eager members of the public – Prince William was (literally) on hand for guidance.

We all know about Prince William's devotion to his beloved football team, Aston Villa – so it seems only natural that he's passed that burning loyalty on to Prince George, too. In September 2020, the pair were spotted supporting the team at a match against Norwich City and Prince George couldn't contain his joy when Aston Villa won 5-1.

It sounds as though Prince William is even hoping that his son may take football seriously as a career in future, alongside his princely duties of course. Talking on Peter Crouch's podcast as a special guest last July, The Duke of Cambridge revealed Prince George's love of the game.

"What if he [Prince George] got really good at football?" asked co-presenter Chris Stark. "Can he do the job and be up front for Villa?" he continued, in reference to being royal.

Before Chris had even finished the question, Prince William excitedly replied "Yeah!" William then enthusiastically continued: "Definitely. I reckon he could be their all time goalscorer. I can see no reason why not."

Back in December 2020, the Cambridges enjoyed a family night out (after a tough year of Covid restrictions) and enjoyed a trip to London's Palladium Theatre, for a show hosted by The National Lottery to thank key workers and their families for their efforts. While all five royals would've no doubt had fun bonding together that night, as is custom, George stayed closely by his father's side.

The Euros Championship final

The future king melted the nation's hearts when he attended the Euros final - wearing a cute suit and tie - at Wembley this year. Prince George, who is now 8-years-old, was rubbing shoulders with the other celebrity guests in the box, including Ed Sheehan and David Beckham who had brought his son Romeo along. Prince George looked ecstatic watching England play, but was sadly left crestfallen (like the rest of us) when England lost to Italy on penalties. Prince William was on hand however to comfort his son.

We can't wait for more magical father-son bonding moments to come from the Cambridges in future!
