In 2011, the world watched as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (AKA Kate Middleton) married Prince William and became a member of the Royal Family. The year before, when the couple announced their engagement, sales of sapphire rings skyrocketed, thanks to the popularity of Kate's famous blue engagement ring (formerly Princess Diana's).

But there was another ring given to Kate on her wedding day that you might not be as familiar with: her wedding band. Experts at jewellers Joshua James told Express.co.uk, "Kate’s simple gold wedding ring is crafted from a special nugget of Welsh gold - a tradition that dates back to 1923 - by Wartski, a jewellers based in London." They continued on to note that the ring is estimated upwards of £2,000.

The ring is said to have been given to Prince William ahead of his wedding day by the Queen, and other members of the Royal Family have been given similar rings before.

It's a thin, delicate gold band, free of extra stones or carving, and looks beautiful next to her sapphire engagement ring surrounded by diamonds. We can take a closer look in these images:

Interestingly, Kate likes to mix up her metals - the sapphire ring is set in white gold, while the band is yellow gold. Are you more into silver, yellow gold, rose gold, or a mixture?
