While appearing on Peter Crouch's podcast, Prince William chatted to the footballing host all about a gift he bought his wife Kate Middleton, back when they were dating, which sadly didn't go down all that well... Oh dear. Well, it's the thought that counts and all that, hey?

After Peter confessed that he'd bought his wife Abbey Clancy (known for her modelling career and presenting gigs) multiple raincoats, William divulged his own present-buying fails, "I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once - she's never let me forget that. That was early on in the courtship that was. I wrapped them. They were really nice. I was trying to convince myself about it... I was like, 'But these are really amazing, look how far you can see!'"

We're already having a good chuckle over this, but the story gets even better as apparently the future king's fears came true when Kate opened the gift and, err, responded less than enthusiastically. "She was looking at me going, 'They're binoculars, what's going on?'. It didn't go well. Honestly I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars."

Another fun fact that comes along with this tale is that while recording That Peter Crouch Podcast, William also discussed how he'd feel if Prince George ever fancied taking up football as a career. Oh, and William, Peter and the show's two other hosts, Tom Fordyce and Chris Stark, all tucked into a curry as they chatted.

Documenting the meeting which took place back in March, the Kensington Royal Instagram account (which is the official source for news relating to the Cambridges) shared snaps of the food – and a pint – too, featuring samosas on silver platters. We're so here for it (why can't our Saturday night takeaways come like that?).
