As the world continues to mourn the death of Prince Philip last week aged 99, a photograph from the archives has made its way back to the fore. In recent years, as the Duke of Edinburgh got older, members of the royal family and those close to them have shared some of their favourite vintage photos of the royal consort. The pictures were wonderfully nostalgic, and in the wake of Prince Philip's death have now taken on a new poignancy.

One particular photo of a young Prince Philip stands out, after having been dug out by Royal photographer Chris Jackson. In the picture, which was shared by Jackson on Instagram during Harry and Meghan's royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga in the Autumn of 2018, the Duke of Edinburgh bore an uncanny resemblance to grandson Prince Harry.

Jackson noticed the striking similarity between Harry and Philip after discovering a 1957 vintage copy of Paris Match, featuring the Duke of Edinburgh in a white military uniform on the front cover. In a second shot shared on the photographer's Instagram post, Prince Harry is seen wearing the same military regalia during the opening ceremony of the Anzac Memorial. And, just look. The pair look the spitting image of one another.

'I spotted this beautiful 1957 vintage cover of a @parismatch_magazine whilst visiting our wedding venue in France a couple of years ago - Who does it remind you of!?,' Jackson wrote on Instagram.

'Swipe right to see! I think it may have been colourised from a black and white negative but correct me if I'm wrong. Was very happy when the lovely people at @chateaurigaud let me keep it!

'Whilst today it's very much a "Modern Monarchy" it's these historical reference points that make photographing the Royal family so unique and remind you of the centuries of tradition that remain at their core.'

Who knew a beard could make grandfather and grandson look so alike?

Prince Harry and Prince Philip long held a special relationship, despite the Duke of Sussex ultimately withdrawing from royal duties and relocating to California with wife Meghan Markle and their son, Archie. Before stepping down, Prince Harry held the position of Captain General Royal Marines - a title that was held by the Duke of Edinburgh beforehand, since 1953.

Following Prince Philip's death, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute to him via their Archewell website. They removed all functions from the site and instead displayed the words: 'In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. 1921-2021.'

In a personal note underneath, they added: 'Thank you for your service... you will be greatly missed.'

Prince Harry has been seen back in the UK ahead of his grandfather's funeral, which will take place on Saturday 17 April. The Duke of Sussex is now in quarantine at his old Kensington Palace home, Nottingham Cottage, in accordance with UK COVID rules. Harry's heavily pregnant wife Meghan Markle, meanwhile, has remained in the US; while it's reported she made "every effort" to travel, being in the third trimester of her pregnancy she was not given medical clearance to fly from her doctor.

Our thoughts are with the whole royal family at this very sad time.
