Prince Harry paid a subtle and moving tribute to his mum, Princess Diana, yesterday, which marked Mother's Day in the UK. While the Cambridge children created cards and wrote messages in 'Granny Diana's' memory, a spokesperson for the Sussexes said that Harry arranged for flowers to be laid at Diana's grave.
"The Duke arranged for flowers to be laid at his mother's grave on Sunday morning," the spokesperson confirmed to Insider. It has been 23 years since the Princess of Wales passed away following a tragic car crash in Paris. Her body was laid to rest in Althorp Park, her family's stately home, on an island on an ornamental lake (known as The Oval).
Some of the trees nearby were planted by Prince William and Prince Harry, along with with Diana herself.
Harry spoke about his mother during his and wife Meghan Markle's recent tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they both discussed their decision to step down from their senior working roles within the royal family. Prince Harry explained that he and Meghan used the money that Diana left to him to facilitate freeing themselves from the monarchy.
As part of the candid conversation, Harry also reflected on how he felt Diana's presence with him throughout the past challenging year. "I think she saw it coming," he said. "I certainly felt her presence throughout this whole process. And, you know, for me, I'm just really relieved and happy to be sitting here with you with my wife by my side. Because I can't imagine what it must have been like for her [Princess Diana] going through this process by herself... At least we had each other."
Meghan is currently pregnant with a daughter, and many have suggested 'Diana' could be possible contender for the baby's name. Last week, the odds were 4/1.
Over in London, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis made homemade Mother's Day cards in Diana's honour and wrote sweet messages about how they were thinking of her. Charlotte added that "Papa misses you" in hers, revealing her adorable nickname for Prince William.
Baby Sussex 2.0 is expected to make her way into the world some time this summer.
