A royal expert has claimed that although Prince Harry was 'hurt and angry' over the way the royal family treated his wife Meghan Markle, he is now 'regretful and embarrassed' by the Oprah interview.

Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe, who wrote the bestselling biography Prince Harry: The Inside Story, was able to get to know the Duke of Sussex pretty well over the 10 years he studied the royal family, and told Closer magazine that believes Harry to be 'hot-headed' and impulsive in his decisions — which could explain why he originally agreed to the tell-all interview.

'Harry was clearly hurt and angry about Meghan's experience with the royals - and used the interview to get it out,' he explained. 'But after returning home, I've no doubt he's been feeling embarrassed, regretful and awkward. He's now facing the consequences. I believe he'll regret that interview - and maybe his decision to leave the royal family.'

Prince Harry returned home to the UK recently to attend to funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip. This was his first trip home since he and Meghan since their explosive tell-all Oprah interview which made royal allegations of racism and a lack of support.

Despite reports of peace talks occurring between Prince Harry, Prince William and Prince Charles after the funeral, Harry was reportedly met with a frosty reception from his family — who were furious about the interview — and sources say there's still a long way to go until rifts are mended.

Alongside hinting at deeply embedded racism and a lack of mental health support within the royal family, Harry also claimed his father and his brother are 'trapped' in their lives as senior working royals, but don't realise it, a statement Larcombe believes Harry said out of anger and will now come to regret, after being confronted with his family and old life back in the UK.

'I’ve heard Harry was feeling numb heading back to LA. You could see in his face at the funeral that he was torn. He didn’t think he’d have to face his family so soon – and when he did, he had mixed emotions. Apparently, talks with his dad and William were positive and productive – he and William had a real heart-to-heart before he returned.

'Coming home has reminded him of everything he’s sacrificed in recent years – and of the recent damage done.'
