Prince Harry has claimed that Prince William physically attacked him over his marriage to Meghan Markle, according to the Guardian, which says it has seen a copy of the royal's upcoming memoir, Spare.

"He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor," the Guardian quotes Prince Harry, reporting that the book describes an alleged argument between the once close brothers.

Cosmopolitan UK has not yet seen a copy of the Duke of Sussex's memoir – which is due for release next week, on Tuesday – but the Guardian said it had obtained a copy of the book through "stringent pre-launch security".

According to the Guardian, the book says the argument began over comments Prince William allegedly made to Prince Harry at his London home in 2019. The newspaper says that the Duke writes that his brother was critical of his marriage and that he described her as "difficult", "rude" and "abrasive".

Next, Prince Harry reportedly recalls the alleged physical encounter. "He set down [a glass of] water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast," the book says, per the Guardian. "He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog's bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out."

Prince Harry writes that his brother then encouraged him to hit back and he refused to do so, per the newspaper, but Prince William later looked "regretful, and apologised".

Kensington Palace is yet to comment publicly on the claims. But, when approached by the BBC, Kensington Palace said it "has no comment to make". The BBC also reports that Penguin Random House is yet to confirm whether the leaked excerpts from the book are genuine.
