The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted that a Spanish nanny with 20 years experience will be joining the family to help look after their son, eight-month-old Prince George.

Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo will head out with Prince William and Kate Middleton on the family's planned tour of Australia and New Zealand next month.

Maria has already started to get to know baby George and his parents, spending time with the three of them at Kensington Palace.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: "Maria is a full-time nanny, who started work with us recently, and will be accompanying the Duke and Duchess and Prince George to New Zealand and Australia."

"We will not be giving further details on Maria or her employment, except to say that the Duke and Duchess are of course delighted she has chosen to join them."

Despite being hands-on parents, the royal couple will need help as they attend to their duties on the tour of the Commonwealth countries.

Maria is highly trained, having graduated from a three-year BA (Hons) course in Early Years Development & Learning with the Norland Diploma.

On its website, the course is explained thus:  "[It] Provides an exciting opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of the early years.

“Our lecturers have a passion for this subject area and considerable professional and academic experience in both education and health.

“Their teaching draws on approaches from many disciplines including psychology, child health, history, philosophy, social science, literature and education.”

Earlier this month, Hello! Magazine reported a friend Maria's as saying: "She has worked with other prominent high-society families in the past.

"It was from there that the Cambridges heard of her and hired her. She is not married and doesn't have a boyfriend as her life is totally dedicated to the family she is working with.

"She is known for being totally professional - married to the job."
