The Royal Family love nothing more than continuing a good old family tradition, including where they send their children to school, which is why we might not be seeing Prince George's adorable backpack walking into the gates of his London day school for much longer.

Since the age of four, Prince George has attended Thomas' Battersea day school in London, that is of course, before Coronavirus struck the nation earlier this year, and all children - including the little prince - were homeschooled for several months.

But, if his parents - the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - decide to follow tradition, the young royal - who turned seven last week and is just wrapping up his year 2 education - may be getting shipped off to boarding school soon.

At the age of eight, his father, Prince William, was sent away to board at Ludgrove School in Berkshire, and his younger brother - George's uncle, Prince Harry - joined the school when he reached the same age, two year later.

Both princes are reported to have loved their time at the prestigious, all-boys boarding school, before finishing their education at Eton in Windsor, where any feelings of homesickness were surely staved off by their mother, the late Princess Diana, who is said to have visited her two boys every weekend at Ludgrove. However, their father, Prince Charles - who attended Cheam, the same boarding school as his father, Prince Phillip - was said to have found boarding school 'an incredibly lonely and unhappy time', with royal biographer Dermot Morrah later claiming Charles viewed Cheam as 'a misery.'

Whatever the duke and duchess decide for their eldest son, the impact of the recent coronavirus pandemic will surely have had an effect on their decision of whether to send their son away for his year 3 education, or have him enrolled somewhere closer to home. Of course, St Thomas' Battersea - where little sister Princess Charlotte is also a pupil - accepts students up until the age of 14, and with reports suggesting that George is 'very happy' there, perhaps his parents will decide to keep him where he is, to minimise disruption after a highly stressful year for everyone.

As well as his classmates affectionately nicknaming Prince George 'PG,' one of the mothers at St Thomas' - whose website emphasises the importance of kindness to pupils - told Vanity Fair that he is is 'popular and has lots of friends,' and revealed that 'there's very little fuss made about who he is,' which is surely a huge plus for the young royal in forging normal relationships at school.

Wherever they decide to send Prince George, who's been described as 'funny and feisty' by godmother Julia Samuel, we're sure he'll be very happy and make friends easily, just as he's done at his current school.
