Prince George is growing up, as his parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a new portrait of their eldest child to mark his eighth birthday.

In the new image, George is the spitting image of a young Prince William, dressed casually in a striped navy and orange polo shirt with matching shorts and a beaming smile. The portrait was captured by Kate herself, who often takes and shares photographs of her children for their birthdays every year.

Prince George has been making more public appearances with his parents in recent weeks. Most recently, the young royal appeared with his parents for two prominent football matches during the Euro Final earlier this month. He was dressed up for the occasion, sporting a navy blazer, blue oxford shirt, striped tie, and trousers. Prince George was also joined by his little sister, Princess Charlotte, and Prince William for a Father's Day half-marathon at the Queen's Sandringham estate back in June.

The public has seen a lot less of the Cambridge children in recent months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Kate opened up during an interview with BBC Breakfast last year about how her family adapted to life in quarantine and homeschooling.

"Louis doesn't understand social distancing. He goes out wanting to cuddle anything, particularly any babies younger than him," said Kate at the time. "My children [also] have bottomless pits. I feel like a constant feeding machine."

Prince William also chimed in on his relief once his children were able to go back to school. "I think every parent is breathing a sigh of relief that school has started again," he joked last autumn.
