Prince Charles has been celebrating the news of his forthcoming grandchild in Scotland.

During a tour of the Royal Lochnagar Distillery in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday, the Duke of Rothesay (as Charles is known in Scotland) was asked whether he had toasted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby news.

He said: “Oh yes, absolutely,” he said, sampling a 30-year-old malt. “Several times.”

The cask of Royal Lochnagar Single Malt Whisky was laid down for Prince Charles in 1988, and will be bottled on his 70th birthday on 14 November 2018.

Meghan is believed to be around 12-weeks pregnant and the baby is due in Spring 2019.

The Royal Family were informed of Prince Harry and Meghan’s pregnancy at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding on Friday.

Charles attended the ceremony alone, as Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall had prior commitments in Aberdeenshire on 11 and 12 October.

The Prince is already a grandfather to his eldest son Prince William and Kate’s three children, Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and five-month-old Prince Louis.

Charles is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

Harry and Meghan’s new arrival will be seventh in line to the throne, bumping the Duke of York into eighth position.

The couple kicked off their 16-day tour of Australia and New Zealand on Monday, with a visit to Taronga Zoo, a public walkabout in front of Sydney Opera House and an afternoon reception at Admiralty House.
