Prince Charles 'took the mick' out of Prince William on his wedding day in his father of the groom speech, according to Kate's uncle.
Gary Goldsmith — brother of Kate's mum Carole Middleton — let slip a nugget of information about the royal wedding reception, an event which has previously been shrouded in mystery, while speaking to ITV on The Day Will and Kate Got Married.
'Prince Charles did a great speech,' he revealed. 'He was taking the mick out of Prince William, talking about him driving a toy car into a tree repeatedly.
'And was very gushing about Catherine,' he added, noting that he was nervous thinking about his niece marrying into the royal family, but his fears were quashed when he heard how the future king spoke about his new daughter-in-law.
'One doesn't know if she would thrive or survive but it from the moment Charles spoke it was obvious she was being welcomed with open arms and with love so I knew she'd be safe,' he said.
He also said he was very proud of his niece and the way she's taken on her royal duties. 'Kate was born for that role - to humble stock, but totally for that role,' he said. 'She smashes it, they are totally right for the country and I think that's why we love them.'
The ITV documentary takes a look back over the past ten years of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's lives — marking a decade of marriage since their royal wedding — from humble beginnings in Norfolk to life as full-time senior working royals with their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
Reflecting on the momentous day in 2011, Goldsmith explains: 'I never expected to be at the abbey for a royal wedding and it was one of our family. That was a moment.'
Adding that he was 'beaming with pride,' that day. 'That was our little Kate with Mike, walking up to William...'
