Move over Ross and Demelza, it's all about a windswept and rain-soaked Prince Charles and Camilla in Cornwall this summer...

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall have returned to Devon and Cornwall for their third visit this year, and Charles couldn't resist commenting on the Cornish phenomenon that is Poldark.

The royal couple had been visiting the picturesque riverside town of Fowey to coincide with the annual town festival. While enjoying tour of the town and a look in Bookends independent book shop, Charles revealed that he is a fan of the historical novels by Winston Graham, and BBC's current TV adaptation starring Aidan Turner.

"What I can’t get over watching that Poldark stuff on TV is how many he wrote," the Prince of Wales admired, via Cornwall Live.

Unfortunately, it began to pour down with rain on the couple as they spoke with members of the public, but the wet weather didn't dampen their spirits.

Local Adam Luck said: "It was fantastic. It's a shame about the weather but it didn't last.

"I live in Fowey and it’s a great day for Fowey. The Havener's [pub where the royal couple visited]was a prime spot to start and end the visit."

After the duchess's visit to Cornish restaurant The Canteen, while Charles had a private meeting with the folks at Surfers Against Sewage, founder Benedict Quinn added: "It went incredibly well. We talked about Cornwall's year round economy and she completely agreed with the idea that food is at the heart of the community.

"She was genuinely interested. She did a pretty good job preparing the food so I offered her a job. She didn't turn it down out right. She told me how she wishes they lived by the sea in Cornwall more."

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall's official visit coincided with the one-day Ocean Plastic Solutions Day conference covering the solutions to ocean plastic pollution, which is a topic Prince Charles has shown great interest in over the years.
