Sarah Cawood has revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The former Live And Kicking presenter, 50, discovered she had the illness after a routine mammogram.

However, doctors have said the stage one cancer is not aggressive and that it is treatable.

"It’s just a lumpectomy, radiotherapy, then a drug called Tamoxifen, which is a hormone blocker, for five 10 years," the TV star told The Sun.

"It really is the Carlsberg of breast cancers. If you have to have it, this is the one to have."

Cawood – who rose to fame in the 90s with programmes like The Girlie Show and Top Of The Pops – also said she wished she'd shown off her breasts a bit more when she was younger, joking that they were even "better than Denise Van Outen's".

The mum-of-two told the paper that if she posed for more lads' mags she might have landed more high-profile jobs.

“Who knows? I could be presenting Strictly Come Dancing now," she quipped.

The TV star has also opened up about her diagnosis on Instagram, where she has shared photos and video after having breast surgery.

"I’d rather trend with something more fun, but if it gets people attending those mammograms, and checking their boobs, then I’m here for it!" she wrote.

Cawood also told pal Van Outen: "We all know I was talking b****** when I said my boobs are better than yours. I WAS joking but that doesn’t come across in print."

Van Outen was among those to send messages of support after Cawood opened up about her diagnosis.
