It seems anything Kate Middleton touches does indeed turn to gold.
The bargain dress The Duchess of Cambridge snapped up in Topshop last week has caused the concession’s website to crash after eager fans vied for a slice of her style.
Kate was reported to have gone maternity shopping to Topshop in London’s Oxford Street last week, picking up a bargain £37 dress.
The frock in question was revealed to be the Deidre dress from Lovestruck Clothing, a concession brand at the store.
The dress itself wasn’t actually a maternity dress and forms part of the brand’s regular SS13 line, but a spokesman for the company told reporters that ‘the dress will comfortably accommodate the Duchess' growing baby bump thanks to its elasticated waistband.’ So you don't even have to be pregnant to dress Duchess-style.
The Lovestruck Clothing website crashed due to demand with 60,000 hits from all over the world.
The brand was selling the Deidre dress at least once a minute until it eventually sold out with most of the interest coming from the US.
Head designer Erika Shaw revealed that the ‘Kate effect’ has increased sales on the site by up to 500 per cent.
"It's staggering how much frenzy surrounds Kate's fashion choices globally, she's the most important British style ambassador of our generation," Shaw told the Telegraph.
"We designed the dress with the ethos to both flatter the shape but not lose any fashion credentials in the process; it features Lovestruck's trademark floral patterns and muted tones."
