The Great Gatsby is set to be the fashion movie of the year, with ‘20s inspired trends influencing collections across the globe.
And we now have a sneak peek of the stunning costumes Carey Mulligan will be wearing in the film, designed by Miuccia Prada and Catherine Martin.
The Creative Director of the Italian fashion house has collaborated with director Baz Luhrmann and his Costume Designer wife Catherine Martin to create 40 bespoke dresses.
Oscar-winning Catherine said her husband and Miuccia Prada have a shared fascination with ‘finding modern ways of releasing classic and historical references from the shackles of the past.’

One of the first sketches released is one of Carey Mulligan’s character Daisy Buchanan, who wears an orange organza Prada dress covered in plastic, scale-like embroidery.
The dress, which is styled with a fur stole, is inspired by Prada’s AW13 runway collection.
Another beautiful sketch is a full length, mint green Prada frock that’s adorned with ‘pearls, stones and sequin fringes.’
It’s inspired by the fashion of the 1920s but updated with the modern fabrics and embroideries of the 1950s.
We also see a stunning drawing of a blue striped Prada cocktail dress with plastic and trimmings on the bottom hem.
This particular Great Gatsby frock was inspired by the Italian fashion house’s SS13 ready-to-wear collection.
The final sketch is a knee-length Miu Miu cocktail dress that’s lined with silk and embroidered with Swarovski crystals.
According to Prada, the costumes take a leading role in the film and Carey Mulligan’s dazzling Prada dress steals the pivotal party scene in the mansion.
After seeing these sketches, we can’t wait to find out if it’s true!
