Restaurant critic and columnist Giles Coren just tweeted-and-deleted a rather unsavoury joke about Spectre star Léa Seydoux.
Posting the front cover of November’s Vogue, in which Coren’s interview with Seydoux features, his tweet read:
“In the new Vogue I suck up to Bond girl Lea Seydoux by saying Bond is sexist, while quietly hoping she might shag me.”

There’s a laughable, but still rather disappointing irony in watching a bloke pretend to use feminism in a ploy to attract women…and still fall flat on his face.

Luckily, though, the internet’s response to Coren’s silliness was rather more heartening than it could have been.
Most were quick to dismiss his tweet as a bit of awkward sexual banter and others went further, to point out that the tweet actually forms part of a wider string of sexist and sometimes really just quite creepy commentary from the columnist.

The backlash has since prompted Coren to replace his tweet with another milder, albeit sulkier comment:

Maybe the palpable disgust will teach him something, maybe it won’t, but he’s certainly lost a few readers today, that’s for sure.
