Porsche’s New Panamera Will Get Even More Hybrid Options
Anyone in the market for a new Porsche Panamera will have plenty of hybrid options to choose from.
The German automaker has just added two electrified variants called the 4 E-Hybrid and 4S E-Hybrid to its refreshed sedan lineup. Neither model is as powerful as the new range-topping Turbo E-Hybrid, but they do give drivers more performance options to choose from at the dealership.

The latest Panameras have been on the horizon for a while now. When Porsche pulled the curtain back on the third iteration of the four-door last fall, it only showed off two models initially—the base version and the Turbo S E-Hybrid. The new hybrids, which both debuted last generation, look almost identical to their predecessors. They’re still gloriously long-nosed hatchbacks that exude class and performance in equal measure. The design has been revised somewhat, though. The front fascia on both has been reworked, and the vehicle’s lines are sharper than before. The changes are subtle, but they give the car a more muscular air.
The more notable changes can be found under the hood. The variants are both powered by an upgraded turbocharged V-6. In the 4 E-Hybrid, that mill produces 300 hp (which is actually 48 hp less than the V-6 in the base model) but gets an extra 163 hp from its electric motor. Total output comes out to 463 hp and 479 ft lbs of torque. In 4S E-Hybrid, meanwhile, the engine generates 348 hp by itself, while its electric motor kicks in an extra 187 hp, for a total output of 536 horse and 553 ft lbs of twist. Neither can compete with the Turbo E-Hybrid, which has an electrified twin-turbocharged V-8 that produces 670 hp and 685 ft lbs of torque, but they’ll do just fine out on the road.
The two variants still offer stellar performance, especially when you consider the Panamera is a sedan. The new 4 E-Hybrid can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 174 mph. The 4S E-Hybrid can hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and tops out at a very respectable 180 mph.
Just as big of a deal as the revised powertrains is the same 21.8-kWh battery found in the Turbo E-Hybrid. The pack allows the car to run for 30 miles in full electric mode, according to Car and Driver. The battery can be fully charged in just two-and-a-half hours using the onboard 11-kWh charger. The other key upgrade is a two-chamber air suspension with active dampers that can be upgraded to Porsche Active Ride system if you want an even smoother ride.
The new hybrid Panameras are expected to be sold here this fall. The 4 E-Hybrid will start at $117,495 and the 4S E-Hybrid at $128,795. They’ll be followed soon after by a fourth hybrid model, which, based on the last generation, will almost certainly be the Turbo S E-Hybrid.
