This Pomegranate Hack For Getting The Seeds Out Will Change Your Life

Pomegranates are delicious. There’s no two ways about it. The juice is super-tasty on its own, or may I recommend, in a cocktail? Plus, the seeds are great in both sweet and savoury dishes, including pavlovas, salads, couscous and sprinkled over tagines.

But gosh darn it, are those pesky seeds hard to get out.

Up until now, your two options have been buying a pomegranate and spending hours trying to separate the seeds from all the nasty, bitter pith. Or buying the pre-prepared pots of seeds, which aren’t that cheap.

Well, that is all about to change, because we’ve come across a hack to get pomegranate seeds out with barely any fuss or faffing about.

This video has been around for a while, but we think it deserves to be brought to people’s attention again; just in case you missed it the first time around.

We originally saw this video on Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi’s Instagram in October. It shows someone cutting a square into the top of the pomegranate, which allows you to see the pomegranate segments. This means you can then cut down the skin of the pomegranate, separate the segments and get all those delicious, juicy seeds out without fighting with the pith.

Genius, right?

To be honest, there have been times when I’ve decided to leave pomegranate seeds out of recipe because I just couldn’t face the faffing about and the inevitable staining of my clothes, hands, face and kitchen.

But this hack means we’ll never have to say no to pomegranates again. Now, that’s a good day for everyone.
