The internet went pretty wild over new Netflix series The Politician last year.

But what we really want to know is... will we be getting a season 2? Thankfully, the answer is YES! And it's coming sooner than you think.

WHEN IS THE RELEASE DATE?

Luckily fans don't have to wait too long until season 2 as the streaming service announced the show would be back on Friday, June 19.

They revealed the announcement in a tweet, saying: "This is now a Hadassah and Dede stan account. Sorry, Payton. The Politician returns June 19."

WHAT IS THE POLITICIAN ABOUT?

The Politician is yet another hit series from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

Billed as a dark comedy, the Netflix show is based on a wealthy Santa Barbarian Payton, who has ambitions of becoming Student Body President at his school.

Show stars include Zoey Deutch, Julia Schlaepfer, Lucy Boynton, Theo Germaine, David Corenswet, Laura Dreyfuss, Rahne Jones, Benjamin Barrett, Jessica Lange, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Zoey plays Infinity, who manages to stay upbeat and positive against all odds - including her grandmother's assertion that she's terminally ill.

WHAT WOULD THE POLITICIAN SEASON TWO STORYLINE BE?

The new series is set to see Payton trying to unseat Dede Standish (Judith Light) in the New York State Senate race.

Speaking about season two, creator Ryan explained: "I love how Payton has grown up. He’s now in college, and the best thing about the season is the Ben Platt versus Bette Midler and Judith Light aspect. It feels very adult, it feels very topical.

"It’s sort of a story about baby boomers asking themselves, 'Is it time for us to pass the power that we have onto the next generation or are they too dumb to figure it out yet?' And I think you can see that battle playing out daily in our political landscape. And it’s what it’s about, and it’s a very cutthroat race that they run."

WHAT HAVE THE CAST SAID ABOUT SEASON TWO?

Lucy Boynton previously confirmed the cast were getting back together to film, just weeks after the first series ended.

The 25-year-old actress plays Astrid Sloan, the former nemesis of lead character Payton Hobart, in the new Netflix political comedy.

"We've got the group chat going," she said. "Then we're so lucky because we get season two really soon.

"We start filming at the beginning of October, so we don't really have to miss each other that long."

COULD A THIRD SEASON ALREADY BE IN THE PIPELINES?

Creator Ryan Murphy recently revealed he's considering not releasing the third season for a few years.

"I think where season 2 ends, what I would love to do is take a couple of years off and have Ben Platt get a little bit older for his final race," he told Collider. "That would obviously be a presidential race, right? That’s always what we had designed, and I think that’s what our plan is."

He added: “I’m going to wait. Ben is young, so I want to wait a couple of years to figure out how we age him up a little bit. But that’s always been my plan.”
