Police have arrested a man in connection with an “horrific” incident in which a 12-year-old schoolgirl was thrown to the ground while a robber snatched her mobile phone.
Dramatic CCTV footage of the incident showed the girl being thrown to the ground several times as she desperately tried to keep hold of her iPhone 6.
The schoolgirl was on her way home to her mum at around 4.40pm on February 18 after running an errand at the local shops.
Derbyshire Police released video footage of the incident in a bid to identify the man responsible.
On Tuesday (February 20) the force said officers had arrested a 22-year-old Derby man on suspicion of robbery. He was due to be interviewed.
Detective Constable Mick Stainsby, who is investigating the crime, said: “The CCTV footage captures the horrific incident taking place.
“The 12-year-old victim has been very brave but was attacked for apparently no other reason than to steal her phone, a rose gold iPhone 6s.”
