Police launch sting on 'lazy' parents blocking residential street during school run

Police have launched a sting on parents parking illegally on a residential street during the school run.

Plain clothes officers from West Midlands Police responded to complaints from residents of Ashville Avenue, in Hodge Hill, who say their lives are being made a misery by parents who drop their children off at Moor Green Primary School.

Multiple parents were spotted parking on zig zag lines, double yellow lines and even feet from the kerb.

The parents are risking three points on their licence and a £100 fine.

Moseley & Kings Heath Police told BirminghamLive: “We conducted a plain clothes parking operation at Moor Green Primary school this morning.

“Several motorists were observed parking on zig zags, putting other road users in danger. All will be reported and potentially receive points/fines in the post.”

West Midlands Police Traffic Unit said: “As this example shows should you park in a inconsiderate or dangerous manner not only can local community teams evidence & prosecute with ease now but your car may not be there when you return!”

Locals claim rows over the inconsiderate parking had led to verbal and even physical threats from parents.

West Midlands Police Road Harm Reduction Team later tweeted: “Keeping school children safe from the threat of harm due to lazy selfish driving, well done @MoseleyHeathWMP.’

“Remember this could be outside your child’s school next, park safely & considerately.”
