Police are hunting a motorist who failed to remain at the scene of a crash involving a child in North Watford.

The East of England Ambulance service was called after a child was hit by a car at 3.04pm on Friday, March 24, at the junction of the A405 and Horseshoe Lane.

They were taken to Watford General Hospital for treatment for a lower limb injury.

Hertfordshire Constabulary remained at the scene after the road was reopened in order to establish the circumstances.

On Friday, the Watford Observer reported that the crash was a suspected hit-and-run, before the force confirmed today (March 27) that the car had left the scene before they arrived.

After the crash, locals described the junction as “lethal”, “such a dangerous crossing”, and “scary”.

There were calls to improve safety there to prevent anything similar happening again, including potential speed cameras.
