Planning a family trip to the Canaries? These are the Tenerife hotels everyone will love
From family hotels in Dubai to Cornwall family holiday, we've got you covered when it comes to finding inspiration for your travels and have picked the best family hotels in Tenerife for you to experience the Spanish island everyone will love.
BEST FAMILY HOTELS IN TENERIFE
The largest of the Canary Islands remains wildly popular with families and for very good reason. Look beyond the more developed parts of the island and you’ll find a wealth of natural attractions to discover – not only gorgeous beaches, but also volcanic Mount Teide – Spain's highest peak – with its cable-car rides and stargazing observatory, and an ocean full of dolphins and whales just waiting to be spotted on thrilling boat trips.
The cycling is great too, for those who like to explore on two wheels, while family attractions such as Siam Park – voted the world’s best water park in the world in the TripAdvisor Readers’ Choice Awards for the last eight years – provide memorable days out.
Most of the best family hotels in Tenerife are clustered in and around Costa Adeje on the south-west coast, which has the benefit of being less than a 15-minute drive from Tenerife South Airport. This is one of the more upmarket parts of the island, with the most attractive hotels and resorts – among them Bahía del Duque with its Spanish colonial feel.
But there are other options worth considering, including the often-overlooked Tenerife capital Santa Cruz in the north-east, where the AC Hotel is a sleek family-friendly haven with a rooftop pool.
The best Tenerife hotels with kids usually have grown-up indulgences, too – spas, fancy restaurants, adult-only pools and other spaces for some much-needed quiet time.
GF Victoria
It’s fun, games and indulgence all-round at this suite-only resort with unique features including a bodyboard wave pool, a sky bar with a glass-walled and -bottomed pool perched out over the facade, and two spas – one with a family area.
In keeping with GF Victoria’s commitment to sustainability, its kids’ club is focused on wellbeing and the environment. Of the seven swimming pools, two are dedicated to families and five are heated in winter; there’s also a water park. As well as easy access to El Duque Beach, you’re in a good spot for Mount Teide and Siam Park.
Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife
It’s not all about the music at this themed hotel, but there are plenty of melodious activity and entertainment offerings for those inspired by the colourful decor and facilities. Between them, the kids’ club for junior ‘Roxtars’ and the Teen Spirit space keep younger guests well entertained with the likes of creative workshops and choreography.
Other highlights are a beach club, three swimming pools, a saltwater lagoon and a spa. Suites sleeping up to four include Fender® guitar rentals, Crosley turntables, personalised playlists and Rock Om® kits for in-room yoga.
AC Hotel Tenerife
For those who want to be based in the island capital Santa Cruz – often unexplored by visitors to the island but well worth spending at least a couple of days in (especially for the lively Tenerife Carnaval each February) – this sleek contemporary option is an excellent choice.
Alongside family rooms with sofa-beds, you’ll enjoy the use of an extensive rooftop space with a pool, a bar and plenty of lounge seating for spreading out and soaking up the views of the cruise ships going in and out of the harbour. All of the main sights of Santa Cruz are within walking distance, as are two beaches.
Baobab Suites
Its hilltop setting a 15-minute stroll (or short shuttle hop) from Playa del Duque gives this minimalist all-suite hotel a feeling of seclusion. As well as being family friendly, with a kids’ club hosting pizza-making, crafting and more, it’s a great place for a fitness break, with a beach-club-style sports centre with yoga and Pilates, a state-of-the-art gym, paddle tennis courts, and a sandy volleyball and chill-out area.
Teens love it – as do cyclists, for its bike centre with hire, storage, personalised GPS routes and other services. The largest suites have four bedrooms and private pools or hot tubs – ideal for reunions with family or friends.
Green Garden Resort & Suites
In tropical gardens a short stroll or free shuttle ride from Los Cristianos Beach, this low-key all-inclusive resort offers the flexibility many families need, with its suites and apartments all with kitchenettes and dining areas – some with private plunge pools.
There’s also a restaurant, a waterside snack bar, adult and kids’ pools, and a bijou spa. Family excursions to some of Tenerife’s natural attractions can be arranged if you want to get out and about.
The Ritz-Carlton, Abama
Inspired by Moorish palaces, this Tenerife icon has a famous kids’ club with a teen space including a rock stage with instruments, a DJ booth and a sports zone, and a cycle centre providing personalised GPS routes.
Perfect for multigenerational holidays and family reunions, its Villa Club section includes interconnecting options sleeping up to nine and access to the Villa Club swimming pool. The spa takes inspiration from the island terrain with its volcanic treatments, and among the restaurants are two Michelin-starred venues.
GF Isabel
Five hundred metres from Fañabe Beach, this collection of low-rise apartments and villas with kitchens and pool, sea and/or mountain views has been designed to resemble a traditional Canarian village and includes charming touches such as wooden balconies.
Some options also have private hot tubs. As well as three pools (one for kids, with slides) and a bio-spa, guests have access to a fully equipped cycle centre with bike hire and to fitness and sporting activities including SUP yoga, pétanque, archery and water gladiators.
Royal Hideaway Corales Suites
Part of the Royal Hideaway resort (which it shares with the adult-only Corales Beach), this Tenerife hotel stands out for its spacious, minimalist apartment-style suites with equipped kitchens and terraces with Atlantic views. The largest have three bedrooms, making them well suited to groups of family or friends, and some have private heated pools or hot tubs.
While children are enjoying the kids’ club, grown-ups can make the most of the adult-only pools on the property, the spa and the extensive fitness offerings including yoga. There’s also Michelin-starred cuisine, as well as more laidback dining.
Bahía del Duque
The kids’ club with its cookery workshops and treasure hunts and the teen lounge with its surf-themed decor go down a treat with younger guests at this exceptional property steeped in authentic local charm and designed to look like Spanish colonial village.
Boasting its own stargazing observatory, Michelin-starred dining and a vast spa featuring an outdoor thalassotherapy circuit, Bahía del Duque occupies low-rise buildings within tropical and sub-tropical gardens housing four swimming pools (two saltwater, two heated) and a kids’ pool.
GF Fañabe
This a fun-filled, sociable resort with a huge array of things to do for all ages, from bouncy castles to bowling, from five swimming pools (two adult only) to a spa. And when kids are busy making new friends in the kid’s club, parents can make a beeline for the Pilates, yoga, aqua gym and water polo sessions.
All of GF Fañabé’s fresh and airy rooms and junior suites sleep up to four, and some have stirring Atlantic Ocean views. And in addition to the global buffet restaurant there’s the laid-back Hall Bar café and a poolside snack bar.
Tivoli La Caleta Resort
A stylishly understated option that opened in summer 2023, Tivoli La Caleta has a subtly colonial feel and architecture inspired by Tenerife’s proximity to North Africa, including sandstone turrets.
You have direct access to the seaside promenade at the quieter end of Costa Adeje, a short stroll from sandy El Duque Beach and from Médano Beach with its water sports. But this also a little world of its own, with four restaurants (including a beach club), three outdoor pools and an extensive spa.
Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey
For those who’d like to spend time discovering Tenerife’s fascinating but untouristy capital and the lesser-visited north of the island, the Iberostar Heritage is the perfect choice - set in lush gardens yet just 10 minutes’ stroll from the city centre and with spacious family rooms.
Over its 70 years, it’s been a favourite among royalty, actors, musicians and artists, who come for its gorgeous Canarian architecture, its huge spa, its fabulous food and its landmark Iballa cocktail bar. A great choice with older teens, it has in addition to its pool paddle tennis courts, fitness and relaxation classes and a great gym.
Gran Melia Palacio de Isora
Stargazing with the resident astronomer, yoga, Pilates and tai chi, tennis at the academy, and swimming in five pools, including the longest saltwater infinity pool of any hotel in Europe, ensure the Gran Melia Palacio de Isora stands out from the crowd.
When it comes to the rooms, suites and villas, you can choose between classic and contemporary decor as well as opt for RedLevel for Families with upgraded facilities and services. There’s also a kids’ club, a sleek spa and fabulous dining, including paella at the pool grill, Italian and Japanese.
Hovima La Pinta, Costa Adeje
This is a fun spot, with simple, bright decor in apartments with kitchenettes sleeping up to eight - fantastic for bringing along the grandparents or travelling with other family or friends. Some rooms at Hovima La Pinta have quirky marine-themed motifs and direct access to the pools and/or the children’s play area.
Other offerings here include a kids’ club, a sports field and even a virtual, interactive aquarium. There are also two airy restaurants with food to suit all, from local dishes to global favourites.
GF Gran Costa Adeje
Another lively, sociable resort with lots to do for all ages, from fun in the mini club to gentle games of pétanque, the GF Gran Costa is popular for its expansive sun deck, four pools (one with a glass bottom and one on the rooftop) and spa.
A 500m stroll from Playa Duque beach, the resort has ocean mountain, or pool-view rooms and suites that sleep four, five or even eight. Plus, there are connecting options – great for multigenerational holidays.
