Pippa Middleton has given birth to her second baby, a daughter named Grace Elizabeth Jane. Reports from royal insiders suggest the newborn arrived this morning at 4.22am weighing 6lbs 7oz, although this hasn't been publicly confirmed by Pippa or her husband, James Matthews.
Royal correspondent Rebecca English shared on Twitter this afternoon: "I hear Pippa (Middleton) Matthews had her second baby this morning. Grace Elizabeth Jane was born at 4.22am weighing 6lbs 7oz. Mother and baby are doing well. A family source tells me: ‘She’s perfect, everyone is overjoyed at such a happy arrival.’ Sweet!"
Pippa and James already have a son, Arthur, who's two, having been born in October 2018. Kate Middleton's sister attended Princess Eugenie's wedding, heavily pregnant, just days before she welcomed her first child.
Baby Grace will be Kate Middleton and Prince William's first niece, although they have a second on the way this summer as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed they are expecting a baby girl in a few months time. With Pippa's second baby having been born during lockdown, it'll probably be a few weeks before she'll be introduced to the rest of her family, but as restrictions ease they'll no doubt make up for lost time getting to know her.
While there are clearly some royal influences in Grace's name, with her parents having chosen 'Elizabeth' as her first middle name, it's perhaps unlikely that they chose to specifically name her after the Queen. Elizabeth has long been a popular name in the UK, especially as a middle name, but it's sweet all the same that Grace has an extra link with the royal side of her family.
Pippa Middleton is notoriously private when it comes to her family, and doesn't hold a publicly known social media account. She never confirmed she was expecting a second baby, but reports circulated nonetheless in December when Page Six claimed a source close to the family had confirmed she was due in 2021. The 37-year-old was later photographed by paparazzi with a baby bump visible.
When it came to Arthur's birth, Pippa was equally low key, only eventually confirming her pregnancy in a fitness column for Waitrose Weekend. In a piece titled 'Exercising during pregnancy,' Pippa wrote, "I've noticed my body change but through exercise I feel it's being strengthened," and also shared that workouts like lunges, squats, and reverse flyes are ideal for expectant mums.
Congratulations to Pippa, James, and the rest of the family on the arrival of a new baby girl!
