On the day the BBC revealed the salaries of its biggest stars in an annual report, you can trust Piers Morgan to snatch some of the attention.

The Good Morning Britain presenter was criticised for breaking the embargo on the figures – which confirmed that Chris Evans earns £2 million to £2.49m and Gary Lineker is on £1.75m to £1.8m, while Claudia Winkleman is the highest-paid female employee on £450,000 to £499,000.

Then when challenged by a Twitter user, he appeared to reveal his own salary, by choice.

And it dwarfs anything anybody at the BBC makes.

£22,500,000. That's 10 times more than Evans, if true.

If. True.

It's worth pointing out that if this figure is indeed accurate, Piers' salary won't all be coming from ITV. He has other work away from television, such as being US editor-at-large for MailOnline.

Meanwhile, the BBC figures for its employees are strictly just that: the salaries paid by the BBC, nothing more – and not taking into account any other income.

Still, £22,500,000 is an insane amount of money.

Amid all of this, Piers also found himself criticised after calling a female journalist "petal".

Sky News reporter Beth Rigby hit out at Piers for breaking the embargo, and the Good Morning Britain presenter responded by telling her: "Oh settle down, petal. I just scooped you. Be better next time."

This led to complaints of sexism, but Piers was unmoved.
