These pictures show the coast as it was battered by wet and windy weather.

Brighton beach was hit with winds of up to 50mph, causing waves to crash into the Palace Pier.

After a few days of rain, standing water remainded on the Kings Road.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind from 9pm on Thursday, which lasted through the night and into Friday until 12 noon.

The warning spanned all of coastal Sussex, including Brighton, Hastings and Chichester and stated that strong winds would cause disruption to travel in the county.

Commuters were told to expect delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport, which the Met Office deems "likely".

A spokesman for the national weather service said: "There will probably some bus and train services affected and some journeys will take longer than normal."

Added to the wind, rain from the past few days collected, meaning there was some carriageway flooding in rural parts of the county, including Alfriston and Bury, near Pulborough.
