Is there anything nicer, weather permitting, than a varied spread of cheeses, dips, crisps and all manner of delicious things, laid out on a picnic blanket beneath a tree?

Probably not.

The joy of a picnic has been immortalised in books, nursery rhymes and fables for as long as we can remember and it’s a thoroughly British tradition that is never a chore to uphold.

This year though, getting outside to relax has more significance than ever, and so it’s little wonder that people are clambering (digitally, of course) to buy picnic rugs and blankets in their hoards.

In fact, John Lewis & Partners reports that picnic hampers and cool bags are up by 39% versus last year and its own brand picnic rugs are up over 2000%.

The good news? It looks like there are lots of sausage rolls to be enjoyed in the not-too-distant future.

The bad news? You’ll need to move quickly if you want to set up your own picture-perfect picnic this year as John Lewis only have one of their own brand picnic rugs still in stock.

And, with a heatwave pending, that’s likely to go quickly too.

The John Lewis & Partners Meadow Spot Picnic Rug brings an added pop of quaint colour and joy to proceedings, can be easily carried, unrolled and then stored away again - so there’s no faffing around when you’re full of crudités.

The rug has a backing to protect from ground moisture, meaning it’s perfect for grass, the beach and even muddy festivals (when the time finally comes) and it folds up neatly and has a grab handle for easy carrying.

We can buy the cocktail sausages, flatbreads, dips and Rosé wine later - let’s shop the basics first.
