There's already plenty of buzz around the upcoming film, Spencer, based on the life of Princess Diana and her marriage to Prince Charles, starring none other than Kristen Stewart. Focussing in on one specific weekend over the festive period of 1991, the movie is all about Diana coming to terms with the fact that she and Charles would be better off apart.
The official synopsis reads: "December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales' marriage has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate. There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different."
Now, a new photograph of Kristen in full Diana costume has been released – and it has certainly divided royal fans. Over on Instagram, where the image has been shared by multiple outlets, including Variety, people weighed in with their comments.
"After watching Emma play Diana on The Crown I just don’t see how anyone could play her better," one person wrote, while another chimed in with, "Doesn’t resemble her at all. Just a blonde wig or a blonde dye job."
Others pointed out that the ring Kristen is wearing doesn't *exactly* match its famous real-life counterpart - which is the same ring that Prince William used to propose to Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, with.
Judging the jewellery, one social media user said, "Costume department: so we couldn’t find the exact ring but thought that any blue will do." Another echoed those thoughts by saying "If you can’t get the ring correct, the most famous engagement ring, why bother at all[?]".
Others were more enthusiastic though and said they're really looking forward to Kristen portraying one of the most famous women in the world, during a very tough period of her life. "IM HERE IM READY" said one. "One of the great actresses of her generation. Can't wait!!" another chimed in with.
What else do we know about Spencer? It's set to star Sally Hawkins (who you'll likely recognise from Paddington or The Shape of Water), Timothy Spall (Harry Potter) and Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible - Fallout). On 25 March, it was also revealed that Jack Farthing from Poldark will play Prince Charles.
Behind the camera, Spencer will be directed by Pablo Larraín (Jackie) and written by Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight.
We're looking forward to watching!
