Phoebe Waller Bridge has been enlisted in the latest Indiana Jones film. The award-winning actress, writer and director will act alongside Harrison Ford in the franchise's fifth installment.

Steven Spielberg, who directed the previous Indiana Jones films, is handing over his director duties to James Mangold, whose credits include Walk The Line and The Wolverine. Spielberg will remain a producer.

“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great film-makers,” Mangold said in a statement. “Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”

The new film is expected to be released in July 2022, according to The Guardian. A name has not yet been revealed.

Waller-Bridge rose to fame after she wrote, directed and starred in the darkly comic drama Fleabag, winning multiple awards in the process. Most recently, she worked on the script for new Bond movie No Time to Die, which is scheduled for release in autumn.

In February, it was announced that she and Donald Glover are collaborating to co-create and star in a new version of Mr and Mrs Smith, based on the 2005 movie starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The action drama will be adapted into a TV series for New Regency and Amazon Prime Video.
