Comedian Peter Kay has broken his social media silence to announce a special Car Share charity screening.

Having been off Twitter for the whole of 2018, the comedian has taken some time off after revealing he was cancelling all of his tour dates and appearances due to ‘unforeseen family circumstances’.

However, since tweeting that statement back on 13 December, the star has remained tight-lipped over the nature of the unforeseen issue that forced him to cancel his tour worth a reported £40 million.

But now he has returned with exciting news for fans of his BAFTA-winning series Peter Kay’s Car Share.

‘Exciting news: A charity screening of new Peter Kay’s Car Share episodes will be held at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday 7th April. Tickets on sale Saturday at 9am,’ it read, with a link attached to how fans could obtain tickets.

Tickets are expected to sell out quickly when they go on general sale this Saturday, 31 March, ahead of Easter.

Not only are we in store for brand new episodes, but it’s for a very good cause, too.

The event is in aid of The Lily Foundation, a 2007-founded charity that researches mitochondrial disease.

With Kay pulling out of his comeback stand-up tour, it’s made way for his one and only tribute act, Lee Lard, to fill the void. His reps claim that the comic is quickly selling out his own gigs, as he embarks on a 200+ tour across Britain, the Canary Islands, and Spain.

Kay shot to fame with Channel 4 series Phoenix Nights, which ran for two series and was followed up by the comedian’s sellout tours, including Top of the Tower and the record-breaking The Tour That Didn’t Tour Tour.

His 2015 television comedy show, Car Share, has proven a massive hit with audiences, having scooped two BAFTAs for it back in 2016.
