Who can forget when Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande got engaged just two weeks after they started dating? The couple's whirlwind romance featured tattoos, lots of PDA and even a song, but just five months later they had split.

But what you may not remember is that Saturday Night Live star Pete was dating girlfriend of two and a half years Cazzie David just before he got with the singer. Two years on, Cazzie has opened up about her split from Pete in her new book of essays titled No One Asked For This, which have just been spotlighted in a profile piece for The Los Angeles Times.

Cazzie reveals that they were "infatuated" with each other, but she often had trouble convincing Pete that she really loved him. Cazzie, 26, eventually broke things off, but called him a few days later to tell him she'd made a mistake and wanted to get back together. But Pete, 26, said he was "the happiest he had ever been," and two days later he ended things for good by text message. Writing in her book, Cazzie recalls finding out about her ex's relationship with Ariana a day after the text, and says she "shook uncontrollably" in her dad Larry David's arms.

Cazzie says it was incredibly hard for her, not least because she could see Pete's new relationship play out all over social media. "It was a really pivotal moment in my life," she added to The Los Angeles Times. "And writing about it has caused me a ton of anxiety, especially because I talk so much about hating the attention it brought me. Why would I bring more attention to myself by writing about it? But there’s nothing that’s gonna be worse than what I already experienced with that."

But as difficult as the split was for Cazzie, she's now friends with Pete and she even gives him a shout out in her book acknowledgements: “Pete. I love you ... Your bravery inspires me and your friendship means the world to me.”

Break ups are never easy, but it's nice to see these two are now firmly back on talking terms.
