Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child, a royal baby son, into the world at 5.26am on Monday 6 May. And today, at two days old, the world will see photographs of him for the first time.

Not that we're greedy or anything, but we're also hoping that today might be the day where we find out the newest little royal's name, too. Because as nice as 'Baby Sussex' is, he probably can't go on being called that forever.

Bets have been being placed on the name of Harry and Meghan's firstborn since the day their pregnancy was announced, but with the revelation of his name imminent, the favourite names are chopping and changing all over the shop.

According to one expert, royal commentator Victoria Arbiter, Baby Sussex will most likely be given a name that reflects both British and American culture. Despite many of the favourites being traditional British names such as Arthur and James, her prediction is that the new parents will pick something more representative of both of their backgrounds. Her guess? Alexander.

Speaking to CBS about her prediction, Arbiter said: "Alexander Hamilton is one of the founding fathers in the U.S." And, might I add, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are known to be big fans of the musical Hamilton, which is based on him. So we might well have ourselves a contender.

Another suggestion that has risen up the ranks of likelihood when it comes to Baby Sussex's name is Spencer. The boy's name would be a subtle tribute to Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, whose maiden name was Spencer. According to betting aggregate site bookmakers.tv, bookies have seen a flurry of bets on this overnight.

The high volume of bets on Spencer mean odds on the name have dropped, but one woman who gambled £250 on the name last week, when the odds were 50/1, could land a win of £12,750 if it's announced that her guess was correct.

Other likely names for Baby Sussex, according to BetVictor, include:

  • Alexander - 7/2

  • Spencer - 7/2

  • James - 5/1

  • Arthur - 6/1

  • Albert - 8/1

  • Philip - 10/1

  • Edward - 14/1

  • Oliver - 16/1

  • Charles - 20/1

  • Henry - 20/1

  • Harry - 66/1

  • Robert - 66/1

  • Joseph - 66/1

  • George - 80/1

Now, let's hope Meghan and Harry reveal their son's name today, so we can all stop draining money on placing bets.
