Last week (July 1) Netflix dropped the first season of Young Royals, and everyone's been saying the same thing about the new series – it's basically Gossip Girl meets The Crown. Hard to imagine, but stick with us here.

The six-part series follows a Swedish Prince as he navigates his new life at a boarding school, as well as his sexuality. "When Prince Wilhelm arrives at the prestigious boarding school Hillerska he finally gets an opportunity to explore his true self and find out what kind of life he really wants," says the synopsis.

The synopsis continues, "Wilhelm starts dreaming of a future filled with freedom and unconditional love far away from the royal obligations – but when he unexpectedly becomes next in line for the throne his dilemma is heightened as he has to make a choice. Love or duty."

Viewers quickly took to socials to share their love for the new series, and comment on the similarities with other Netflix hits. "IT HAS ACTUAL TEENS and is like a cross between Elite, Gossip Girl and The Crown, I absolutely enjoyed it," said one fan, "It’s like The Crown and Gossip Girl had a baby" tweeted another.

Others commented on the season's dramatic ending, "Oh man, #YoungRoyals is about 20 episodes too short. Why is it so good?!?! 😭😭😭 @netflix, can I have more plz?" tweeted one fan. "I don’t think i’m getting over young royals any time soon," said another, with another adding "How can Netflix leave us with that ending??"

While Netflix hasn't confirmed whether or not there'll definitely be a second season of the series, a representative for the streaming giant told the Radio Times they haven't completely ruled it out either. Here's hoping then hey.
