Knowing how to use a knife properly when cooking is a good skill to have, but by no means as easy as it sounds. It takes practise and care, along with some patience.

But you don't have to learn all on your own!

Professionally trained chef, Stove Garden, has gone viral on TikTok for making videos that debut his top tips and cooking hacks. And lo and behold, his most successful is a 45-second clip showing his top three best knife tips.

So, let's get to it...

Trick #1 looks at finding a solution to those vegetables that tend to move around a lot during food prep. Let's face it, there's nothing worse than trying to thinly slice up your potatoes and them rolling around all over the place. The hack? Simply slice off the end, so that it makes a flat surface for the piece of veg to rest on your chopping board. The result? Waaaaay less movement when you're chopping.

The next trick is more of a top tip for how to use your knife properly. Garden says, "Create a claw with your hand, tuck your fingers and use your knuckle as a guideline. This way you keep your fingers out of harm's way."

His third and final trick targets the ingredients that tend to stick to your knife when chopping. He simply recommends putting your knife at more of angle to avoid leftover pieces of veg sticking to the back of your knife. It's as easy as 1,2,3!
