People Are Furious That Bournville Is No Longer Listed As Vegan

·1-min read

For a long time, Bournville chocolate has been a favourite of vegans all across the UK. But after changing the ingredients listing recently, sadly Bournville Buttons are no longer technically vegan. And people are raging.

Instagram profile @vegan_food_uk shared a post recently breaking the sad news to its followers. The caption, which sits alongside a photo of the ingredients used to make Bournville, states that “the buttons have been, by default, accidentally vegan ever since they were launched. [The ingredients have always listed] dairy as a "May Contain" allergen warning ⚠️.

“Now @cadburyuk have added milk as an active ingredient, which makes them 100% NOT VEGAN.”

We asked Cadbury to make a statement on the change of ingredients listing on Bournville Buttons, and it said that the ingredients hadn’t actually changed – only the way they have to be listed has changed.

“The quality and safety of our products is of paramount importance; we have updated this packaging to further protect consumers from allergens as our knowledge and regulations evolve. Due to use of shared manufacturing equipment, we must now declare that our products may contain milk solids. The recipe for Cadbury Bournville has not changed. We have updated our packaging labels to align to new regulations that aims to provide consumers with guidance on potential allergen ingredients in food products.”
