Today, Meghan Markle is making her first solo outing with the Queen, where the pair are visiting Cheshire to open the Mersey Gateway Bridge, among other engagements.
It’s an honour that the Duchess of Cambridge undertook back in 2012, joining Her Majesty alone for the first time on her Diamond Jubilee tour in Leicester.
Naturally, people are making comparisons between the two visits.
But there’s one photo from that’s gone viral due to its striking resemblance to an image of the Duchess of Cambridge and the Queen in 2012.
The photo – taken by Getty Images photographer, Jeff Mitchell – depicts Meghan and the Queen sitting side-by-side, with the Duchess on the left and Her Majesty on the right.
Virtually the same image was taken of Kate back in 2012, sat beside the monarch.
From the images, it seems both Duchesses get on well with their grandmother-in-law. Both women managed to tempt a smile out of the Queen – but it was Meghan who provoked a giggle.
The Duchess of Sussex is undertaking the intimate engagement with Her Majesty just under a month after her wedding to Prince Harry.
In comparison, the Duchess of Cambridge joined Her Majesty on a solo outing during the Diamond Jubilee tour almost one year after she wed Prince William.
