“It was really kind of their romantic spot. They would spend weeks at a clip there. They would go to the theater or the opera or out to dinner with friends," their daughter Clea Newman Soderlund told The New York Times.
The penthouse is in a 1925-built full-service cooperative with a 24-hour doorman, live-in resident manager, fitness center and bike room.
As explained in its listing, it boasts views of Central Park and the reservoir and includes a sun-drenched living room with a wood-burning fireplace at one end and a hidden bar at the other.
Surrounded by oversized windows and glass doors, it connects to a dining room boasting eastern exposures and detailed moldings.
Behind the room lies a windowed butler's pantry, a large eat-in kitchen and a park-facing terrace. A half bath, staff room/laundry room and storage room complete the area.

The primary suite sits to the left of the foyer, with its own wrap-around terrace, closet space and a primary bath. The second room boasts southern exposures and an adjoining full bathroom.
"My mother wanted a terrace for the dogs, so they could go outside — that was the prime objective," Soderlund told The New York Times. "They ended up getting this extraordinary property that overlooks the park and reservoir, and they got the sunrise and sunset."
