Patricia Hodge joins All Creatures Great And Small

The iconic Patricia Hodge has been named as the newest cast member in the new series of All Creatures Great And Small.

The first series of the All Creatures Great And Small reboot, was Channel 5's highest rated show since 2016, with 5 million viewers. The series is based on the classic James Herriot novels, follows the adventures of a young country vet in Yorkshire.

Patricia, (who you'll recognise as the overbearing but hilarious mum from Miranda) has been announced to play Mrs Pumphrey, a delightfully eccentric owner of pampered Pekingese, Tricki Woo. Cute dogs and iconic actresses - what's not to love?

Here's everything we know about the new series so far...

All Creatures Great And Small series 2: What's it about?

All Creatures Great And Small was a hit show in the 1970s, and this adaptation is a reboot of the classic James Herriot novels. It follows the adventures of a young country vet in Yorkshire.

A synopsis for the new series from Channel 5 reveals, "In the new episodes, viewers can expect more heart-warming stories from the Dales with a characterful ensemble of farmers, animals and townsfolk living in 1930s Yorkshire." Cute!

All Creatures Great And Small series 2: Who's in it?

Series regulars Nicholas Ralph (as James Herriot), Samuel West (as James' mentor Siegfried Farnon), Anna Madeley (as matriarch Mrs Hall), Callum Woodhouse (as Siegfried’s errant brother Tristan Farnon), and Rachel Shenton (as Helen Alderson) all return.

Complementing Patricia's casting is a whole host of brilliant new characters joining the show. Dorothy Atkinson (Mum, Call the Midwife) will star as Diana Brompton, whose vivacious nature captures vet Siegfried Farnon’s eye.

James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley, Belgravia) will play army man Colonel Merrick, one of our boys and a local farmer.

Some characters from series one are also returning. The easy on the eye Matthew Lewis (Harry Potter, Ripper Street) will reprise his role as Hugh Hulton. He's come back to Darrowby after some reflective time abroad.

Cleo Sylvestre (Doctors) returns as Mrs Chapman, and Kriss Dosanjh (Doctors, Coronation Street) returns as George Pandhi.

All Creatures Great And Small series 2: When is it on TV?

Shooting has been taking place in the Yorkshire Dales early in 2021, so we can expect the new six-episode series to be on air at the end of of 2021 or early 2022.
