Passer-by Captures Footage of Shanghai Metro 'Short Circuit' Explosion

A “short circuit” was given as the cause of an explosion seen on Shanghai Metro Line 11 on November 11.

Footage taken from below the overhead line and shared to Chinese social media platform Douyin shows an intense flash alongside a loud noise and smoke.

Shanghai-based Shine.cn reported that the incident took place close to Jiadingxincheng Station in the Jiading District.

According to China Daily, the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group said the incident caused a 60-minute delay to services after an “empty train was short-circuited”, with two trains being forced to stop for evacuations. No injuries were reported. Credit: Lionomobo via Storyful
