Paris Jackson shares emotional recovery story from heroin and alcohol
Musician Paris Jackson has shared a raw and emotional post on Instagram detailing her recovering from a heroin and alcohol addiction, to celebrate being 5 years sober.
In a montage of clips, Paris showed footage of her partying, drinking alcohol and smoking, then looking upset and tearful, before clips of her Alcoholics Anonymous milestone tokens, ranging from 60 days sober up to 6 months and beyond.
Her heartfelt caption discusses the difficult road to recovery and her gratitude at having made it to a healthier place.
"Hi, I’m PK and I’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict," Paris writes. "Today marks 5 years clean and sober from all drugs and alcohol. To say that I’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. Gratitude hardly scratches the surface. It’s because I’m sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. I get to feel heartbreak in all it’s glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm."
She adds that she's "found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it".
Paris' montage of clips ends with her looking light and joyful, as she hangs out with her friends and makes music, makes music on stage and spends time with animals.
"Here’s a little snapshot of what has been possible because of my sobriety, and my god I can’t believe I almost missed it all."
Offering up support in the comments, countless fans thanked Paris for her bravery and notable names, such as Paris Hilton, shared words of encouragement too.
"So proud of you sis 🙌," she wrote.
Paris' video ends with the words: "To those that helped me on this journey, if only for just the beginning, or the whole time so far, you know who you are and I owe you my life. 5 years. THANK GOD."
