  • On January 7, Michael Jackson's daughter Paris Jackson celebrated five years of sobriety on Instagram.

  • In her post, she revealed a secret struggle with heroin.

  • She reflected that she "almost missed it all" amid her addictions.

Paris Jackson is opening up about a former heroin addiction and celebrating her sobriety.

On January 7, the 26-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson (who refers to herself as “PK”), marked the occasion on Instagram. “Hi, I’m pk and I’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict,” she wrote in the caption.

“Today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol,” she continued. “To say that I’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. Gratitude hardly scratches the surface. It’s because I’m sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. I get to feel heartbreak in all its glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust.”

Paris added that she’s learned that “life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it.”

She ended on this note: “Here’s a little snapshot of what has been possible because of my sobriety, and my god I can’t believe I almost missed it all.” Paris also wrote a date, January 7, 2020, suggesting that this was the date that she got sober.

In the post, Paris shared a series of videos that show her in her pre-sobriety days: Drinking a lot, having alcohol poured directly into her mouth, and multiple shots of herself crying. That’s followed by several tokens to mark her months of sobriety.

After that, viewers see a glowing Paris dancing with friends, singing, rock climbing, hanging out with fiancé Justin Long, and laughing a ton.

The post marked the first time Paris opened up about her use of heroin, per the Daily Mail. She's previously shared her struggles with addiction and depression, which began after her father died in 2009. She also attempted suicide several times.

"It was just self-hatred, low self-esteem, thinking that I couldn't do anything right, not thinking I was worthy of living anymore,” she told Rolling Stone in 2017. "I was crazy. I was actually crazy," she said. "I was going through a lot of, like, teen angst. And I was also dealing with my depression and my anxiety without any help.”

Now, Paris seems to be in a really good place—she's making music, seems happy in her relationship, and is literally glowing. Congrats on five years of sobriety, Paris!
