Paddington 3 compared to unexpected award-winning black comedy
Paul King, the producer of Paddington 3, has compared the upcoming sequel to survivalist black comedy, Triangle of Sadness.
In a recent interview with Total Film magazine (via Games Radar), King said that the third instalment of the Paddington film franchise, which will see everyone's favourite marmalade enthusiast travel back to "deepest, darkest Peru", reminded him of the cult hit starring Harris Dickinson.
The threequel, which is set to be directed by Dougal Wilson, was described by King as a fish-out-of-water comedy, where the tables are turned on the Brown family.
After they land in Peru to visit Paddington's family, they find themselves confronted with a mystery that lands them in a caper that is apparently "like the third act of Triangle of Sadness".
Paddington saw the beloved bear (Ben Wishaw) move to London and become adopted by the Brown family, before trying to escape a taxidermist (Nicole Kidman) hell bent on adding him to her collection.
The film's record-breaking sequel followed Paddington through more hijinks – including a brief stint in prison and a daring train escape – as he attempted to buy his Aunt the perfect present.
Triangle of Sadness, by comparison, was about a vapid celebrity couple on a luxury cruise with wealthy guests, until the group is attacked by pirates and shipwrecked on a seemingly deserted island.
Since its initial announcement, Paddington 3 has added some major stars to its cast, including Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, Rachel Zegler and Emily Mortimer.
In June 2022, Studiocanal confirmed the official title of the threequel, Paddington in Peru, and announced it will be directed by Wilson.
Despite the current strikes from Hollywood's actors' union SAG-AFTRA, it was previously reported that the movie continued production in the UK – without Zegler.
Paddington in Peru currently has no release date.
