Despite Ozark coming to an end with season four part two, creator Chris Mundy just hinted at a potential spin-off. YES.
After almost five years and four seasons, the Byrde family story has finally drawn to a close.
*SPOILERS* In the final episodes of the final season, Ruth Langmore (played by Julia Garner) is shot and killed by Camila Elizondro, the newly installed head of the Navarro cartel, after Camila discovered it was Ruth who killed her son Javi Elizonndro following Wyatt Langmore's death.
While many fans were devastated that Ruth had to die, all is not lost for viewers of the show, after showrunner Mundy hinted at a potential spin-off in the future. He told TVLine, "It’s definitely something that people have talked about a bunch. There’s nothing definitive. We’re lucky that people seem to really like the show so there’s obviously going to be some interest there."
Obviously, it goes without saying that Ruth couldn't be the focus, but he insists there are still other potential storylines the show could follow. "There are still ways to stay inside the show and revisit things. I’m sure people probably would’ve been happier if Ruth was out there."
The showrunner added that fans should acknowledge that Ozark in its current form has come to a close, and that if they do create another series, it would hopefully be totally different. "Anything that spins off from it would be its own distinct thing, even though it’s in our universe.”
Could we see Charlotte or Jonah Byrde take centre stage? Whatever the follow up would be, we'll be ready and waiting.
Ozark seasons 1 - 4 are now streaming on Netflix.
