Make perfect holiday cookies with this best-selling tool on Amazon: ‘Worth every penny’

Baking cookies is a holiday tradition many people take part in. Personally, I don’t love to bake year-round, but I can’t resist whipping up a few batches of Christmas cookies for friends and family. I usually go for sugar cookies decorated in frosting and sprinkles, but I recently came across a cookie press that seems to make decorating them a whole lot easier.

What’s a cookie press? It can help you make cookies in fun designs beyond what your standard cookie cutters can do. Depending on the type, you can use one to imprint designs or pictures into a cookie and cut out different shapes.

According to Google’s annual Holiday 100 report, the OXO Good Grips Cookie Press has been the most popular one over the last 12 months, and it’s also the No. 1-selling cooking press on Amazon.

It comes with 12 cookie-pressing discs.

The OXO Good Grips Cookie Press comes with 12 discs — each with a different design — to help you make even and perfectly shaped cookies. If you add on the holiday disk set for $20.99, you get six more discs with festive designs, including a snowflake, star, Santa head, snowman, bow and the word “joy.”

This set comes with six holiday discs.

Amazing!” wrote one Amazon reviewer. “I’ve always wanted one of these and boy am I enjoying it! Works great and I love that you can change up the shapes without emptying first. It’s easy to clean too.”

To use it, fill the cookie press’s clear cylinder with your cookie dough, choose your design and then press down on the lever to create a cookie. When you’ve made a batch, you can pop them in the oven and bake per usual. However, some Amazon reviewers have found freezing the cookies a little before baking helps them retain their shape even better.

Worth every penny!” wrote another reviewer. “I have wanted one of these for a long time. This one is great. The recipes are easy to follow and the cookie gun works great. I found my cookie press worked better if I popped my cookie sheets in the freezer drawer between bakes… I cannot wait for Christmas!”

It’s important to note, however, that you can’t use any type of dough in a cookie press. A cookie press is best for spritz cookies — the delicate, buttery biscuits. That’s because the dough needs to be soft enough to squeeze through the device but hard enough to hold its shape while baking. (FYI, Martha Stewart has a good recipe for vanilla spritz cookies.)

If you want to impress your loved ones and have a little more fun in the kitchen this holiday season, it may be worth getting a cookie press. The amount of effort you need to use one is low, but when used correctly, the result looks like that of a professional baker. No one needs to know all you did was invest in this best-selling cookie press.
