New figures have revealed that Oxford is one of the best cities to spot Santa in the sky, as the city has lower levels of light pollution.

Light pollution is the presence of excessive artificial lighting, the impacts of which are clearly visible at night.

It has been estimated that 83 percent of the world's people live under light-polluted skies and that 23 percent of the world's land area is affected by skyglow.

Research by at Clear It Waste Clearances examined which cities have lower levels of light pollution and so, technically, have a better chance of spotting Father Christmas flying overhead.

Of course, while Santa Claus might not be real, the data shows Oxford is not impacted by light pollution in the same way cities such as London, Birmingham and Manchester are.
