Outnumbered star Claire Skinner has opened up about her relationship with former co-star Hugh Dennis.

The couple starred as flustered parents Sue and Pete Brockman in the hit BBC comedy series between 2007 and 2014 (as well as a 2016 Christmas special), and last year they confirmed they were in a relationship in real life too.

While the pair don't often talk about their private lives, Claire made an exception for Lorraine Kelly on Thursday morning (September 19) as she briefly commented on her relationship during an interview.

"It's a lovely little life surprise, isn't it," she said on Lorraine. "It's a lovely thing."

Following reports of their relationship in the tabloids last year, Hugh Dennis confirmed in June 2018 that he and Claire were together in a brief statement, saying: "I am very, very happy, we are so very happy. It's nice and yes, it's so lovely."

It comes after a recent interview with The Times where Claire reflected on the early days of the relationship as she explained they were together for about a year before it became public knowledge.

"Nobody really noticed when Hugh Dennis and I first got into a relationship," Claire said. "The news didn't come out until a year later, which was great.

People said to us that someone will notice soon but I kept telling them, 'We're both over 50. Why would anyone be interested in that?' We've got families we wanted to protect, but everybody's pretty cool and happy with it."

While there are currently no plans for another Outnumbered special, the Outnumbered kids are at least keeping the spirit of the show alive and well by reuniting and shocking fans with how much they've all grown every time they do so.

The most recent reunion happened in July this year as Jake, Ben and Karen – aka Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche and Ramona Marquez – got together for a little catch-up and a barbecue.

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV.
