Outer Banks stars Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes have opened up about what it's like dating in real life as well as on-screen, and how one impacts the other.

The pair play Sarah Cameron and John B in the Netflix original; two people from opposite ends of the social hierarchy of Outer Banks, who start dating. And after meeting on the set of the first series, Madelyn and Chase started dating, too, confirming they were a couple in June 2020.

But what is that actually like? "For Maddie and I as young actors trying to march our way through the industry, it was important for us to establish a difference in character versus personal relationship," Chase, 28, told Cosmopolitan US.

"[When I watch Outer Banks] I see a lot of John B and Sarah. I don’t see a lot of Maddie and Chase, which was really gratifying. You’re able to be outside of yourself and be in these characters and go into a world which is fictional vs. the reality of what life is."

*Spoilers* Cline, 23, says something similar, adding, "I think being in a relationship only makes the relationship moments stronger onscreen. In the breakup scene, if it’s heart-wrenching for us, then we can only hope it’s heart-wrenching for the audience."

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan UK, the Outer Banks cast also touched on the likelihood of a third series. While they'd all love another instalment of the show, spin-offs are unlikely, as their characters feel most comfortable thriving off each other. Fair enough.
