Jane Fonda recycled a six-year-old gown and carried the red coat she previously declared was “the last article of clothing I will ever buy” as part of her ongoing campaign to raise awareness of the climate crisis at Sunday's Oscars.

The 82-year-old actor and activist took to the stage at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles where she presented the award for Best Picture, which was won by Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite.

Fonda appeared in a gown she previously wore in 2014 to the Grace of Monaco premiere in Cannes.

Pairing it with Pomellato jewellery, the former fitness guru also held the red coat which has become synonymous with her arrests in Washington as part of her involvement in climate crisis protests.

After announcing her involvement in ‘Fire Drill Friday’ – a regular Friday rally to raise awareness of the environmental issues – Fonda vowed to “engage in civil disobedience” and “get arrested”.

Following her fourth arrest, Fonda told the crowd: “You see this coat? I needed something red and I went out and found this coat on sale.

“This is the last article of clothing that I will ever buy,” she announced.

“When I talk to people and say, ‘We don’t really need to keep shopping. We shouldn’t look to shopping for our identity. We don’t need more stuff,’ I have to walk the talk. So I’m not buying any more clothes.”

Fonda’s last protest took place in Los Angeles on Friday, where she was joined by Joaquin Phoenix.

“This is the front line of the climate crisis here in California,” Fonda said at Friday’s protest.

“And literally what happens here can impact the rest of the country and the rest of the world.”

The veteran actor also made a bold statement with a stylist new silver pixie hairdo.

Fonda’s hair colourist, Jack Martin, revealed that the entire process of transforming her hair took seven hours.

Martin said that during the mammoth grooming session, Fonda passed the time by writing chapters of her upcoming book, memorising lines for her Netflix show, reading the news and responding to emails.
