Oscar Isaac has always been an under-the-radar A-lister. Yes, he's a star of the arguably the most iconic film franchise of all time. But when he's not piloting an X-wing starfighter as Poe Dameron, you'll likely find him in some limited theatre indie flick.

His approach to the promo circuit is equally understated. Where others stunt for the paps in next season's (still unavailable to the rest of us) runway grails, Isaac keeps things low-key. Case in point: this all-black fit, which he wore while plugging the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker on SiriusXM.

The beauty of a murdered-out look is that a) it's easy but b) it looks deliberate. There's a reason that it's the de facto uniform for fashion industry types, after all, and it's not just because it makes you look slimmer. No, it's because sticking to one colour makes even simple pieces – a pair of slim jeans, a figure-hugging knit, a pair of stompy combat boots – look like an outfit. Which is exactly why all-black has become the go-to for the best-dressed men on this season's red carpets.

With menswear going through a bit of a more-is-more moment, Isaac's outfit serves as a counterpoint; it's like a pause for breath when everyone else is hyperventilating in cowboy hats and neon green tuxedos. It also proves just how versatile black is as a backdrop for little, outfit-making details, like a silver necklace and a sporty chronograph. After all, simple 'fits fly when you make them your own. It could be something as simple as pushing up your sleeves, adding a statement accessory, or just starring in a film that's set to make a couple of billion at the box office.
